ATS After South Dakota: Indiana, North Dakota and Canada

South Dakota has been out since September 24. At $11.99 for 13 cities and roughly 680 miles of road, it is one of the smaller state DLCs by city count but one of the better ones for scenery, with the Badlands, the Black Hills and a long stretch of I-90 that finally connects the northern map in a satisfying way. Sioux Falls and Rapid City are the anchors, and the Missouri River crossings are among the nicest pieces of road SCS has made.

Five days later came Road Trip: Ford, and that one split the community. For $7.99 you get four drivable cars, a 1967 Mustang, a 2023 F-150, a 2024 Bronco and a 2006 Crown Victoria, plus a Road Trip gameplay module built around courier deliveries rather than trailers. The point is to drive the map at car speed and car height, which changes how familiar routes feel. Some players see no reason to drive anything without 40 tons behind them. Others have discovered that a Crown Vic on Route 66 at dusk is a different game. Both camps are right.

The modding community is already reworking the Ford cars with new sounds and interiors, which is exactly what you would expect from a scene that has spent years making truck packs. Drop a single GTA6 mod folder into a Rockstar game and nothing happens without a PC version and a loader; drop a .scs file into ATS and it just works. SCS’s mod support remains one of the quietest advantages this game has.

What is confirmed next

Indiana and North Dakota are both announced, which fills in the obvious gaps around existing states. Beyond that, SCS has confirmed on the official site that it is working on a British Columbia DLC, the game’s first step into Canada, which it teased through one of Annie’s paintings before saying the name out loud. No date has been given, but British Columbia sits right above Washington state on the current map, so it will plug in without any awkward gap.

What is confirmed next

Meanwhile 1.62 is in open beta with tourist boards and a Route 66 centennial board. ATS players should expect the state cadence to continue at roughly two to three releases per year, with the Canadian province slotting in somewhere among them.

If you skipped South Dakota because it looked small, give it a second look. The Black Hills alone justify the price, and with Indiana and North Dakota coming the northern plains are about to become a proper network rather than a dead end. Pair it with the Ford pack and take the Crown Vic from Sioux Falls to Rapid City on US-14 instead of the interstate, which is the best two hours this DLC has to offer.
