ATS: Deadwood Recreated for South Dakota

Deadwood is coming to American Truck Simulator as part of the upcoming South Dakota DLC. The town is one of the first confirmed Black Hills locations, and SCS Software is using its historic center rather than reducing it to a distant roadside backdrop.

Players will be able to drive along Deadwood’s Main Street, passing several buildings based on recognizable local landmarks. The preview includes the Town Hall, a museum, the historic train station and rows of preserved storefronts. That attention to recognizable locations is something players appreciate across very different games, whether they are exploring a detailed ATS map expansion or browsing Final Fantasy XVI Mods that change and extend another familiar game world.

A town shaped by the Gold Rush

Deadwood was founded in 1876 during the Black Hills Gold Rush. It quickly grew from a mining camp into a frontier settlement visited by prospectors, merchants and figures who later became closely tied to Wild West history.

Wild Bill Hickok and Calamity Jane are two of the best-known names connected with the town. Their stories helped keep Deadwood in books, television and film long after the mining boom ended. That history gives the in-game location a clear identity before the player even reaches its main street.

Driving through historic Main Street

The Deadwood American Truck Simulator version appears to focus heavily on the central road through town. Instead of relying on generic Western buildings, the map team has recreated specific structures and the closely packed architecture that makes the area easy to recognize.

This should make the drive feel different from entering a larger ATS city. Deadwood has narrower surroundings and a historic street layout, so the appeal comes from passing through the town itself rather than approaching a modern skyline or large industrial district.

More than a name on the map

SCS has not yet detailed every road, depot or delivery point connected with Deadwood. The current preview is mainly about the town’s appearance and its place within the Black Hills section of the DLC.

Even with those details still missing, Deadwood already looks like one of the more distinctive settlements planned for South Dakota. Its Main Street, historic buildings and connection to the Gold Rush give the map team material that would be difficult to replace with standard assets.

The South Dakota DLC remains in development, with no confirmed release date on Steam. More information about Deadwood’s surrounding roads and trucking opportunities is likely to arrive as SCS continues revealing the western part of the state.
