Realistic AI drivers behavior (+10MPH) ATS 1.60+ Mod

This mod is one of the few, if not the only one, that makes traffic drive faster than the speed limit where possible.

In the USA, speed limits are more of a recommendation, and as a result, drivers often go faster because there are no cameras enforcing them. This mod was created to recreate that as much as possible and to fix the unrealistic behavior of AI drivers.

This mod does not change traffic density. It removes the restrictions that prevent traffic from driving faster than allowed, makes driver decision times more realistic, and makes drivers more selfish and focused. They do everything faster, including taking corners at higher speeds, but they still do it like real drivers, without forgetting self-preservation. As a result, AI will not always drive faster — a lot depends on the road.

With this mod, drivers are divided into two categories:
Passenger cars on highways tend to group together and drive faster than the posted limit. Real drivers in the USA do this, and police usually don’t bother such groups. When police appear in traffic, AI drivers typically slow down.

The second category is uncertain or economy-minded drivers, as well as cars with low engine power and poor aerodynamics. They usually drive at the posted speed and stay in the right lane, trying not to block others.
Trucks in this mod generally drive around 65–75 mph, especially when using realistic air resistance mods. (I strongly recommend using my realistic air resistance mod for the best realism — https://www.modsats.com/realistic-air-resistance-and-fuel-consumption-for-ats-1-60/. Unfortunately, just like in real life, they are limited by engine power, aerodynamics, automatic transmission tuning, and sometimes even speed limiters.

During overtaking, AI can accelerate up to 99 mph (in real life, you can lose your license for 100 mph), but in normal driving it will not go more than 10 mph over the limit (in reality, police start paying attention after 11+ mph). In areas with heavy police presence or in cities, AI becomes more cautious and drives no faster than the posted speed. Cars almost never drive below the maximum allowed speed unless there is a serious reason.

This mod should not cause conflicts with traffic density mods, but unfortunately, because of high density, those mods may prevent it from fully showing its potential. If you like driving in cities, you will see more aggressive and selfish traffic, and traffic jams may clear faster, but the mod is mostly designed for highways.
